What are some good valentine’s day activties for kids?

i work at a pre-school and i want to do some new crafts for the kids !!
the kids are 4 years old so nothing too hard where they can’t do themselves !!!
any ideas

There are many great ideas already posted here. I’m going to share a personal activity that I do for Valentine’s Day. First, the theme is Valentine’s Day and the message is sharing, kindness and giving to others. We begin by learning the song, Tony Chestnut, by The Learning Station. This is actually an interactive movement song and is a play on names. You point to your toe, knee, chest, nut (head) then who you love. It goes on from there with other names with movements including Eileen, Neil, Pat, Bob, Russell and Skip. I don’t want to type all of the lyrics here in case it’s against copyright laws. Here’s a link to the activity page that has all of the words and movements too! I print out a copy for my entire class.

The activity page for Tony Chestnut also contains the perfect art activity. It’s a heart and the children draw a picture of who they love on their heart. I read them the book, The Giving Tree. I then have the children cut out additional hearts. We go on a mini concert tour (3 year old class next door) and perform the song for them. The 4’s then give the 3’s hearts that they can draw a picture of who they love on.

This activity has turned into such a HIT that our entire school now does it! Plus the song is so popular the school performs it on parents night. And it gets a standing ovation!! Here is Tony Chestnut being performed:

And, now that The Learning Station has released an interactive book called The Book About Tony Chestnut we have something new to add to this cool activity. Here’s a link to the book:

There is an art project that I do with my class that I love and you can do it for any holiday. It is painting with a special kind of puffy paint made from shaving cream and Elmer’s glue. You mix shaving cream and glue (I don’t really have a measurement, but I mix glue in until it just starts to run off the spoon, but not watery. I don’t think you can get it wrong, any amount works) You can mix food coloring in and they can put it on to a paper heart cut out with a plastic spoon. Then you can do anything you want with it–you could put little cut out hearts on top of it (they will stick because of the glue on it), photos of the kids in the middle, glitter, etc. It takes about a day to dry and they need to kind of glob it on, not rub it thin. It dries into a pretty puffy paint. Very fun!

The can make valentine cards. Then you put them all into a box and they reach in without peeking and draw one out for them to take home. Sometimes they get their own so they get to pick again if they do.

Help them all decorate the room with cheep valentine decorations you can get from the dollar shop.

When my daughter was in preschool her teacher made cupcakes and brought them in unfrosted. She had frosting in containers as well as some in decorating bags and all the kids each decorated their own cupcake.

There’s a site too below that has some for preschoolers on it.

    home made valentine cards.
materials: glue or glue sticks, construction paper, markers, scissors, flowers picture magazines,or coloring pages and glitter.
Give each child a piece of construction paper, fold it in half and let them cut our pictures or use coloring pages, glue the chosen picture on the front of the card and fill the inside with their own personal greeting of love ( ex.I love mommy you are my life ETC.) and watch the fun they will be having creating their own cards.
