What kind of homemade Valentines decorations can you make at home?
We have one small child–girl 3 and a half.
A few years ago I made what I called “101 reasons”. It was jar and inside on 101 slips of paper, I wrote on each piece a reason why I loved him. All different. Can be done easily with the computer. Get different colored paper. On each one I hole punched a hole and put a slip of ribbon on each one. Makes it look fancier. If you really really love the guy. Make 365 reasons, one fore each day of the year. Takes some work but really appreciated because it shows it took time and alot of effort. Anyway, thats what I did. Didn’t have a lot of money. Bought a card with it.
And GUYs this is a great idea for your girl as well.

Surely all homemade decorations are made at home?!
:-p

CRAFT MATERIALS:
20-gauge wire (available at bead stores)
Scissors
Pliers
Beads
Time needed: Under 1 Hour
1. Snip a length of wire (a parent’s job) and bend it into a V shape.
2. String on the beads (tape the wire’s cut ends first to protect smaller children).
3. Finish by bending the beaded wire into a heart, then twisting the ends together with the pliers.
Variations:
Large hearts can hang in a locker; small versions look great strung onto a necklace, pinned to a jacket pocket, or worn, as best friends are wont to do, right on their sleeves.
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Red paper
White paper
Scissors
Tapestry needle
Yarn
Time needed: Under 1 Hour
1. Cut out a red paper heart (ours is about 6 inches across). Trace and cut out 10 to 20 more from white paper. Stack up the hearts in bunches of five, folding each bunch down the middle.
2. Using a tapestry needle, poke holes every 1/2 inch down the center folds (young kids will need Dad’s help with this step).
3. Stack the hearts together with the cover on top.
4. Thread the needle with yarn, knot one end, then sew it through the holes, knotting it at the other end.
5. Decorate the cover and seal with a kiss.
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Crayon pieces
Heart-shaped metal cookie or muffin tin (our hearts are about 1 1/2 inches across)
Scrap paper
Double-sided foam mounting tape
Scissors
Colored card stock
Marker
Time needed: About 1 to 2 Hours
1. Heat the oven to 250°.
2. Fill each mold with crayon pieces and bake until the crayons melt, about 10 to 15 minutes. Tip: Place a sheet pan under the crayons to catch any drips.
3. Once they’re cool, remove the hearts from the molds and smooth any rough edges by rubbing them on a piece of scrap paper.
4. Use small pieces of foam tape to stick each heart to a 3-inch circle cut from card stock — or use our template, then add your message.
Suggested messages:
You color my world
Valentine, you make my heart melt
Have a happy Valentine’s Day, for "crayon" out loud!
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Red and pink mold-and-bake clay, such as Sculpey III
Rolling pin
Heart-shaped cookie cutter or small knife
Pencil
Craft glue
Aluminum foil
Index card
Scissors
Clear Con-Tact paper
Hole punch
Metal key ring
Small metal slip rings (available at craft stores)
Floral wire
Permanent marker
Time needed: Under 1 Hour
1. Partially blend red and pink clay to create a swirled effect. Roll the mixture out to about 1/8-inch thickness.
2. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter (or a small knife; a parent’s job) to cut the clay into a heart. Make a small hole about 1/4 inch from the top with the point of a pencil. Follow the package directions for baking the clay, then set it aside.
3. Glue aluminum foil to both sides of an index card or piece of cardboard. Let dry. Then draw an oversize key on the foil and cut it out. Cover with clear Con-Tact paper, trim the edges, and punch a hole in the top of the key.
4. Attach both small rings to the big key ring. Thread the key onto one. Connect the clay heart to the other small ring with a loop of floral wire. Write a message (such as "The Key to My Heart") on the key with the marker.
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Card stock
Hole punch
Scissors
Marker
Glue
Googly eyes
Time needed: 30 Minutes or Less
1. Cut a heart from colored card stock or heavy construction paper (use it as a template to make more).
2. Punch a starter hole for each finger with a hole punch, then use scissors to enlarge the circle; a child’s fingers should fit snugly through the holes.
3. Decorate the heart with a paint pen or marker, adding facial features, and write your message on the back. Glue on googly eyes.
Tips:
Message Ideas:
I’m your puppet
You make my heart dance
Let’s dance!
